Through looking at students in their environments, I was particularly drawn to one - Sharon - who studies dance and phycology at University. I found great influence thought looking at the history of contemporary dance and specific dancers such as Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham. The Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize has really helped guide my way of photographing.

 

By looking at the importance of space I was inspired to look further and look at the importance of the dance studio for Sharon - like her bedroom, it is a place of comfort, documenting the difference and similarities in body language in both spaces. Through showing her in both environments I want to show the level of comfort in both spaces, in abstract ways to represent the abstract nature of contemporary dance.
